Women Artists of Pune

Throughout history, the contributions of women artists have often existed on the margins—undocumented, unarchived, unacknowledged. In India too, women have shaped artistic legacies not only through formal institutions but also through everyday creativity, domestic labor, and embodied knowledge passed across generations. Yet, these voices have often been silenced—absent from official archives and fine art histories. The story in Pune is no different - the voices of its women artists have remained largely in the shadows of male-dominated histories.

 

This exhibition brings those voices into the light. It is a gathering of works by women artists of Pune who work with ceramics, textiles, painting, illustration, and other mediums. Their works are inspired by nature and life—by growth and decay, silence and movement, memory and material. Some works speak in whispers; others announce themselves boldly. Some preserve traditions; others disrupt them. Each piece is an invitation to see how women have been shaping Pune’s artistic landscape—not as an afterthought to history, but as its core pulse.
