Creation, Connection, and Community in Pune’s Artistic Legacy:
Memories of the Past, and Visions for the Future
(this project is funded by the India Foundation for the Arts)
India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) is an independent, nationwide, not-for-profit organisation that makes grants and implements projects across research, practice and education in the arts and culture in India, since 1995. They believe that the arts and culture are essential to our individual and community lives, and for a more equitable and just world. As a facilitator, catalyst and provocateur in the field, they support critical investigations, explorations and experiments that push boundaries of knowledge and practice, and challenge dominant narratives.
Led by team ARISA, this scholarly project delves into Pune's rich artistic history from the Maratha era to the present. It combines historical research, community engagement, and museum collaborations to showcase the city's cultural evolution. Highlighting influences from local and colonial interactions, the project creates a vibrant narrative that connects the community through art.
Funded by the India Foundation for the Arts, the initiative aims to connect generations to their heritage through interactive exhibitions and educational programs, making Pune's art legacy accessible and engaging for all. This vibrant exploration celebrates the past while inspiring a future rich with artistic innovation and community collaboration.
As part of this project, we curated two exhibits at the Zapurza Museum of Arts and Culture.
